Staying in the Ecolodge Bukit Lawang is not only a unique
experience, but also a personal statement in support of sustainable
tourism.
The Ecolodge Bukit Lawang was established to complement and serve
as an outlet for the activities of the Bohorok Environmental
Education Centre. Herein the accommodation aims to increase
awareness towards biodiversity conservation and the implementation
and management of proper ecotourism. All proceeds are donated to
the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program, which has been under
critically endangered status.
Rooms
This accommodation offers various bungalow and lodge complexes,
using a combination of hand-crafted bamboo furniture and
country-style modern establishment, tucked away in a charming
down-to-earth setting, offering you a natural jungle breeze under a
comfortable and peaceful ambience.
Each bungalow and lodges are distinctive on their own, such as
Siamang Bungalow and Orangutan Bungalow with spacious bedroom,
Hornbill Lodge and Butterfly Lodge with its charming garden, and
Thomas’ Leaf Monkey and Rimba Rooms for backpackers or individual
travelers.
Available in each accommodation unit, are twin or double beds,
mosquito nets, and bathroom with shower facilities.
Restaurant & Food
The Kapal Bambu restaurant is constructed from natural and
sustainable harvested bamboo and clay, which are found in
sufficient quantities in the local environment of Bukit Lawang.
This innovative design serves as a showcase for sustainable
development, and offers a ground floor eating area with seating for
150 people. The Bamboo Lounge in the upper flower offers space for
conservation education, simple relaxation, and entertainment.
The kitchen team adheres to authentic Indonesian cuisine, but also
ventures into European and fusion cooking to suit your individual
tastes. All ingredients are prepared from certified organic local
farmers or self-grown vegetables and fruits, and no chemical
additives.
Activities & Sport
Enjoy the rewarding naturalist’s experience of exploring the
pristine Sumatran rainforest with its biodiversity. The 2.6 million
hectare Leuser Ecosystem completely contains within the Gunung
Leuser National Park, which itself helps comprise the Tropical
Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Enjoy the unique event of observing Critically Endangered Sumatran
orangutans in their natural habitat, with unique and exotic flora
and fauna abound, by joining programs such as
Bird and Nature
Walks, Landak River Walk, Bat Cave Exploration, Tangkahan Elephant
Tour, or Leuser Jungle Trekking. Each participant will also
receive professional guide and assistance, camping equipment and
binocular for rent, and Indonesian breakfast, lunch, and dinner
pack.
Learn about local fruits, vegetables and organic farming practices
at the
Farm Tour. Experience the local communities, their
culture, culinary, livelihood and traditions, through a variety of
opportunities from local entrepreneurs, artists and farmers, at the
Local Village Tour. Guests can also buy local goods at the
Bukit Lawang Local Market each Friday. Take a look at the
surroundings together with a local – using a
Becak or rental
bicycles. And finally, relax after the demanding activities and
get a traditional
massage inside the accommodation area.
