The once sleepy river port on sungai Siak, has transformed into one of Indonesia’s oil capitals, with all the hustle and bustle of a modern city. Biak is a small island located in Cenderawasih Bay near the northern coast of Papua, an Indonesian province. Biak Island is the largest island in this small archipelago on the northern coast of Papua and has many atolls and coral reefs. Served by Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Kota Biak, this small town is slowly becoming an oil boom town. Kota Biak may lack touristy entertainment, but adventurers will love to venture into the wilds of the island. Near to Biak island is Supiori Island the location for the Biak and Supiori Nature Reserves. These parks are bird sanctuaries where you can see beautiful varieties of parrots and cockatoos.
