1881 Chong Tian Cultural Hotel is set to be the first and the only one Chinese heritage hotel in Malaysia. Housed in a 130-year-old building that is currently being given a new lease of life, it was a thriving hotel in the late 1800s. Then known as the 1881 Chong Tian Hotel, it catered mainly to well-to-do merchants who came to the Penang harbour for trade and business.

Each of the hotel rooms are elegantly designed and furnished with priceless 19th century unique antique from the private collections of the hotel's owners that will take you back in time giving you the experience of luxury living in 19th century Penang. Spanning across an area of 1000sqf is the historical museum of the 1881 Chong Tian Cultural Hotel. Located within the vicinity of the hotel, this museum in a hotel offers a fresh, brand new attractive concept like no others around the world. The 1881 museum houses some of the finest and rarest Chinese antique collections – a real gem for antique collectors, and is now for the first time on exhibit to the public. The highlights of the collections ranges from the different glorious era of dynasties in the Chinese empire; including the historical Tang Dynasty, the great Ming Dynasty, and the last dynasty of China – the Qing Dynasty.
Admission into the museum is FREE for all room guests, while entrance fee of RM10 per person is charged for outsiders. There is also a daily tour divided into three sessions by our experienced tour guide around the museum at 11am, 3pm and 5pm.
