Six Senses Duxton was originally built as Singaporean shophouses and has a very particular architectural style that dates back to the late 19th century. They were traditionally built as the home of Chinese Straits merchants and their families. Business was conducted from the front room on the ground floor, while the family occupied the rear of the building and the rooms on the floors above.
The hotel façade of Six Senses Duxton is very reminiscent of the “Chinese Baroque Style” which became fashionable in Singapore during the turn of the last century, through the application of European classical elements.
