Nestled amidst the native West Coast rainforest in Franz Josef, some of the hotel's nearby attractions include Westland Poutini National Park, Folklore Museum, Steinernes Theatre, Salzburg Zoo and Tennengebirge.

The Te Waonui Forest retreat hotel is a fantastic new development, open in September 2009. Exciting architectural design, combined with luxurious interior and an environmentally conscious structure. A great place to enjoy all that the Glaicer region has to offer.
Exterior: A striking modern low rise building that fits well with the local natural surroundings.
Lobby: An impressive natural wood finish with comfortable seating, overall a modernist designer styling.

Rooms
The hotel has guest rooms housed in four separate accommodation wings; Kahikatea, Totara, Rimu and Matai, all linked by covered walkways. This retreat offers a choice of bedding and bathroom configurations with rooms featuring either a super king-size or two queen beds. Special attention has been given to guest bedding by adding soft woollen underlays and plush down and wool duvets for extra comfort. Most rooms have large walk-in showers but many also feature baths with a separate shower or a combined shower/tub. Satellite TV, Internet access, an in-room safe and an ironing set also feature in all rooms as standard.

The Canopy restaurant features the best of local New Zealand produce and international dishes.
