The fortress is one of the most impressive examples of military architecture in Tuscany and was one of the most important strongholds. The hotel is inside the citadel of the fortress, in its oldest part (reconstruction works were carried out on the citadel by the architect Sangallo), and can be found in the small square after crossing the bridge over the moat. This charming historical hotel has 16 rooms furnished with refined elegance and period furniture, from whose windows guests can enjoy a breathtaking view of a cliff over the village of Sorano. Guests are welcomed into a lobby with a 24-hour check-out service and a cloakroom. There is also a TV lounge, café and breakfast room on site. Conference facilities are available for business guests. Room service is also available (fees apply), and guests may make use of the hotel's car park.

The guest rooms are all different because they have been drawn from existing rooms and designed with respect for the old architecture which has not been altered. Each room has an en suite bathroom with shower and hairdryer. Rooms are fitted with double or king-size beds and all come equipped with direct dial telephone, satellite TV, minibar and courtesy set. Individually regulated heating is standard in all rooms.

The hotel does not have a restaurant, but it does have agreements with many local restaurants (Ristorante da Fidalma, Old Source, La Taverna Etrusca and Ristorante dei Merli), and guests have the possibility to choose half board or full board at one such restaurant.

The pool and the spa are located at a height of about 800 m, set in a natural cave that has been drained. Guests may enjoy a session in the Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, steam room or hot tub, and moreover benefit from a range of relaxing, energising, lymphatic, reactivating and firming massage treatments. There are several further spa treatments on offer, such as exotic fruit masks and wraps and tasty herbal teas. There is also a garden, where guests may relax on sun loungers. In addition, there is golf course located nearby.

Arriving by car from Grosseto: Follow the SS322 for about 20 km to Scansano. Then take the SS323 for 20 km, and then take the Provincial Route 10 for about 1 km. Then turn right, and follow the road for 6.5 km to Maremmana. By train/bus: Arriving at Grosseto station, take the Rama bus travelling to the area. From Florence via the A1 motorway: Exit at Orvieto, and follow the signs to Castel Giorgio, San Lorenzo Nuovo, Grotte di Castro and then Sorano. From Florence via Siena: Take the A1 and exit at Certosa di Firenze. Then take the highway to Siena South (exit SS2 Cassia - Buonconvento). Then take the Via Cassia (SS2) to km 146, where there is a sign indicating the way to Sorano. From Rome via Viterbo: Follow the signs to Lake Bolsena, then for Valentano, Latera and then Sorano. From Rome on the Via Aurelia: Take the SS1 to Montalto di Castro, and then follow the signs to Canino, Valentano and then Sorano. From Genoa via Grosseto: Take the SS1 Aurelia, and exit at Albinia. From there, follow the signs to Manciano and then Sorano.
