The small cosy Dutch-Malay style houses already exist since the early 19th century and opened their doors for guests in 1992. It is one of the first homestays of Munduk village, at a time when the mountain village wasn’t a popular destination for visitors like it is today. Though, it was already favoured since the beginning of 19th century, because of its bracing climate and beautiful green scenery.

The comfortable Dutch and Malay style houses offer 11 rooms with verandas spotting the beautiful garden and the surrounding mountains. Here you may relax or imagine the times of the first settlers of Munduk area right at this spot. Or imagine how the Dutch stayed here together with Balinese families to enjoy the recreating atmosphere of the mountains. The houses are conserved since that time, but of course were continuously renovated and maintained. You will stay amongst the members of the village and get to know about their daily cultural and spiritual life. The rooms have private bathrooms with hot water and they offer a bottle of drinking water for you. The breakfast is included with your booking.

At Meme Surung Homestay we opened a small restaurant, Café Cupak, for you. Here you may enjoy delicious local food or just drinking a coffee or tea while watching the green landscape and the mountains. Cupak is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are using only our fresh, local products and are happy to offer you agreeable prices. Our bigger sister restaurant Taman Dewata is about 100 metres walking distance from Meme Surung Homestay. ‘Taman Dewata’ means “Garden of Godsâ€. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers a variety of local Balinese and Indonesian food, Western and Vegetarian as well as a large choice of different delicious cocktails, non-alcoholic and alcoholic.

Due to its central location all activities of Meme Surung Homestay in and around the village can be easily accessed. For instance the traditional local market or the main road with all its small shops, warungs and cafes. Also the different trekking routes are very easy to access with destinations like rice fields, waterfalls or plantations. Along the route you will discover colourful flowers and various fruits. All our activities are highly community-oriented. Our staff is only recruited from our local community and are happy to offer you the following activities: Trekking, Class of making an Gods offering, Temple visit – get an insight of Hindu spirituality. Please respect that you are only allowed to enter our temples with a traditional sarong. Our staff will help you.
