In 2000 Reykjavík held the title of European City of Culture in recognition of its vigorous cultural life, including various festivals and a remarkable selection of artistic events. At the same time the capital has been called the hottest Europe for its famed and dynamic nightlife. The adjoining towns also offer attractions, such as the unique and highly popular elf-spotting tours, an annual Viking feast, guided tours to places of historical interest or the largest shopping mall in Iceland. The hotel itself is within walking distance of both the city centre and the seashore.

The hotel is run as a summer hotel between 03.06 - 23.08 as it is a student dormitory during wintertime. It was built in 1999 in a modern style and provides simple, practical and spacious accommodation in 42 bright, clean studio apartments, with lift access, a breakfast room and on-site parking.
