Air India is the flag carrier airline of India owned by Air India Limited (AIL), a Government of India enterprise. The airline is headquartered at the Indian Airlines House in New Delhi. Air India operates a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft serving various domestic and international airports. As of January 2014, Air India is the third largest carrier in India after IndiGo and Jet Airways.

Air India Class Available

  • Economy Class: All seat on Air India Economy Class features 31 to 34 inch seat pitch and seat recline of 5.2 to 6 inch. On selected aircraft, passengers are also able to enjoy seatback entertainment or entertainment on overhead screens with Audio/Video on Demand system on 747s, 787s and 777s. On selected A319s, A320s and A321s, there are 5 choice channels to entertain passengers onboard. Blanket and pillow is available. Air India also provides choice of continental or Indian cuisine non-vegetarian or vegetarian. In addition, passengers also can enjoy complementary liquor or wine. Snack or light meals are served on short domestic flights.
  • Executive Class: Air India Executive Class passengers are able to enjoy seat pitch of 74 to 76 inch which transform to fully lie flat beds on 787s and 777-300s; seat pitch of 76 inch on 777-200s; seat pitch of 57 to 59 inch with 158 degree recline on 747s; seat pitch of 52 inch with 13.2 degree recline on A330s; seat pitch of 37 inch with 8.8 degree recline on A320s; seat pitch of 40 inch with 7 degree recline on A321s. In addition, passengers also can enjoy lounge access, amenity kits, exclusive check-in facility, blanket and pillow. To entertain passengers, Air India provides seatback entertainment with Audio/Video on Demand system on 747, 787s and 777s. Passengers are also able to enjoy restaurant quality multi course with extensive beverage selection.
  • First Class: Air India First Class cabin seats just for 12 passengers. On this cabin, passengers are able to enjoy comfortable seats with 88 inch seat pitch on 777-200 aircraft, seat pitch of 80 inch on 777-300s, 82 inch seat pitch with 157 degree recline on 747s, which can transform into fully lie flat beds. Amenity kits, duvet and pillow are also provided. Restaurant quality multi course meals with special beverages and cocktail selection are served while the passengers enjoy in-flight entertainment with Audio/Video on Demand.

Air India Baggage Allowance

Cabin:  

  • Passenger can carry onboard a free baggage allowance with maximum weight of carry-on Luggage 8 kg for all classes with dimensions 55 cm (22 inches) x 40 cm (16 inches) x 20 cm (8 inches).
  • Children are entitled to the same cabin baggage allowance as adults.
  • When an infant (not entitled to a seat or free baggage allowance) accompanies an adult, a carrycot, or a fully collapsible push chair/stroller is allowed. This may be carried in the cabin if space is available, or else as checked baggage.
  • A lady’s handbag or purse, a laptop, an umbrella, a walking stick and a small camera may be carried free in addition to the free baggage allowance.

Check-in:

  • Effective 13th May 2013, for domestic flights, the maximum baggage limit for Economy Class is up to 20 kg, 35 kg for Executive Class and 40 kg First Class.
  • For international flights, the maximum baggage limit for Economy Class is to 20 kg, 30 kg for Executive Class and 40 kg First Class.
  • For flights to US/Canada, the maximum baggage limit for Economy Class is 2 bags with 23 kg per piece and 2 bags with 32 kg per piece for Executive Class and First Class.
  • Musical instruments will be permitted as part of checked-in baggage only.
  • Infants not entitled to a seat are allowed one checked baggage up to 10 kg or carry-on fully collapsible stroller or pushchair, or an infant's carrying basket that may be carried in the passenger cabin, subject to availability of space.

Air India In-Flight Entertainment

Air India provides Thales i3000 in-flight entertainment system on Airbus A320 family aircraft so passengers can choose from five channels, airing new and classic Hindi movies, Indian TV programs, Hollywood action movies, Bollywood music videos and games. On Airbus A330s, Air India provides widescreen displays for Business and Economy Class passengers but no personal IFEs. The Boeing 777-200LR/300ER, Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 787 aircraft are equipped with Thales i4000, i5000 and i8000 Audio/Video on Demand in-flight entertainment system. Passengers are able to choose from wide range of English, Hindi and other regional language movies in India. Air India also provides Showtime as entertainment guide onboard. Passengers also can enjoy in-flight magazine called Shubh Yatra means Happy Journey. The magazine is a bilingual magazine and published in both English and Hindi. Shubh Yatra covers a variety of issues from travel, culture, entertainment and also lifestyle.

Air India Food and Beverage

All passengers in all classes are able to enjoy complimentary meal and beverage service on long haul flights. For Economy Class and Executive Class passengers, Air India also provides choice of continental or Indian cuisine non-vegetarian or vegetarian. In addition, passengers also can enjoy complementary liquor or wine. Snack or light meals are served on short domestic flights. For all First Class passengers, the best of cocktails and meals are served on Royal Doulton tableware. Passengers also can choose from Grilled Lamb Chops and Parmesan Cheese Omelets to Chicken Malai Kabab and the Shahi Korma. Champagne is also served.

Air India Check In

  • Domestic Flights: Check-in counters are opened 120 minutes before departure and will be closed 45 minutes before the scheduled time of departure for all classes.
  • International Flights: Check-in counters are opened 3 hours prior to departure and will be closed 60 minutes before the scheduled time of departure for all classes.
  • Web Check-in available beginning 48 hours before the flight departure time for domestic flights and 24 hours prior to scheduled departure of flights for international flights. Currently web check in is not available for travel from Bahrain, Dhaka, Dubai, Muscat, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Air India Fare Rules

  • All known taxes, surcharges, and fees at the time of ticketing will be collected on the ticket.
  • Child tickets for domestic travel for normal fares are 50% of the basic normal adult fare and for international travel it is 75% of the basic normal adult fare. Child discounts are sometimes not applicable for special discounted fares.
  • Infant tickets for normal fares will be charged at 10% of the basic normal adult fare. No seat will be allotted for an infant traveling on an infant ticket. If a seat is required the infant should pay the child fare. Infants below 7 days old are not permitted travel (both domestic and international).

Air India Change and Refund

  • Refunds will be processed subject to refund penalties as per fare rules and will be paid as per the original currency of payment, country of payment and form of payment. Cash or checks cannot be issued if the ticket was purchased with a credit card.
  • Changes and cancellations can be made online.
  • No Revalidation or cancellation fee applicable on infant tickets.
