Known locally as 'The Face of Ross-on-Wye' and originally built in 1837, this 42-room historic hotel has recently been the subject of major work to restore it to its former beauty. Standing high above the horseshoe bend of the River Wye, it enjoys some of the best views of the surrounding countryside. This majestic Grade II Georgian country hotel has enjoyed the company of many famous visitors, including Queen Victoria and Charles Dickens, who planned his American Biography whilst staying here. Directions, How to get there
By car: from the M5 junction 8, take the M50 to Ross-on-Wye. Ignore signs to town centre and follow the A40 over the river to the Wilton roundabout. Turn left onto the B4260, then take the second right up the hill to the hotel.
